There are many things going on our lives every day. Each person has life and tries to improve it. Sometimes, we have difficulties and sometimes, we have happiness. Our lives are not identical. However, when I look at Barbieri’s pictures at exhibition “Site Specific”, I cannot see individual's life. I felt that we are all the part of the culture in this world. His pictures can tell story of our culture. I am interested in his concept and I want to figure out what is his intention. Here is my understanding of his landscape photography.
He photographs architecture and landscape with large format scale camera from the sky. He uses high bird’s view and natural light. Because of the view, these architectures are tiny like miniature toy and people are like ants. It looks like someone put them on to a box to make his or her cities. For example, he took Las Vegas photo. In the picture, a huge high heels object is with a movie billboard. They look like toys.It must be a giant high heels, but it looks high heels for a doll. I imagine that kids played with “city kit” or they might play “Monopoly” or ‘SIMCITY”. He also uses different tilt-focus lens. It focused center area and rest of the part becomes blur. It makes that I become a bird and look down human being’s cities and culture. I also think that I am looking at these cities in my dream because most of the part in the picture is blur and overexposed. Besides, colors are low saturated. Therefore, it looks a little old, but at the same time, the subject is modern city. They have interesting gap.
Even though his photographs are basically overexposed, I think his pictures are successful. I do not think he just had wrong exposure. It must be his intention to take these overexposed pictures. They are effective because the light take away some detail. If he show more detail of the city, it might look like a map or advertisement for the city. For example, he took Las Vegas photo with Sphinx and a pyramid looking architecture. The picture is overexposed. I cannot see the details because it looks too flashy. However, if he took whole detail of the Sphinx and a pyramid, it becomes advertising of the hotel (or something). In his picture, I tend to think more about the contents. What did we built on the earth? I need to look at the part closely and think about what is going on the pictures. Besides, people in his picture are tiny like ants. I am amazed that the tiny being (we) built these architecture. Even each tiny beings has different character, I feel that we are the same kind of being and we are the part of our culture. It is very interesting.
Human being have developed their culture. Even though we have different lives and we are doing different things everyday, we are the part of it. Looking at our sites from very higher place is interesting because it gives me such a feelings of belonging the culture.

I think this campaign "love your shape" is effective. It is very clear who is the target audience (pregnant women) They might not be happy about their shape, but it is possible to be stylish with GAP cloths. The picture suggests that parents can wear T-shirts with their kids. It is effective to sell GAP kids product, too. I think it is very effective campaign.
